Stage 1 Fire Restrictions as of June 27th, 2025

Pitkin County has instituted Stage 1 Fire Restrictions as of Friday, June 27th, 2025!

Fire season is here, and conditions are more dangerous than ever.

Over the last 20 years, wildfires have become much more intense. Fires today burn hotter, spread faster, and are more difficult to contain—especially in areas with wind and steep terrain. We're now seeing fire behavior close to record levels.

What does this mean for our community?

It means we all need to be extra cautious. Please follow the Stage 1 Fire Restrictions and avoid activities that could spark a fire.

Stage 1 restrictions:

Open Fires:

Allowed only in designated fire grates in developed recreation sites. Fires in permanent fire pits or fire rings at private residences may be allowed.

Smoking:

Smoking is prohibited except within an enclosed vehicle or building or in an area cleared of all combustible material.

Fireworks and Explosives:

Possessing, discharging, or using fireworks or other pyrotechnic devices is banned.

Spark-Producing Devices:

Welding, torches, and engines without spark arresters are restricted. Make sure you have your hotworks permit from Aspen Fire! https://docs.google.com/.../1FAIpQLSd5jkxOksiijp.../viewform

Your actions matter. Let’s work together to keep Aspen safe.

Comparison of prohibited vs. allowed activities related to fire safety, including fireworks, outdoor fires, smoking, and engine use.
