The Aspen Fire Protection District provides services with a volunteer force supported by a small, full-time staff that performs most of the administrative functions and day-to-day tasks. Our volunteers are viewed as an integral part of our success. Without the volunteers continuing dedication to professional emergency response, the District would not be able to provide the numerous fire/rescue services we currently offer.
The Volunteer firefighters and officers currently number approximately 45. This number insures our ability to consistantly deliver the number of firefighters and apparatus required for our baseline level of service (2 fire apparatus and 15-18 firefighters). As the number of active volunteers shrinks over time, the officers begin to consider a new "class" of probationary members. The applicants are usually brought on probationary status as a group of 6-8, to provide an efficient training program which will lead to their certification with the State of Colorado as Firefigher 1 within 18 months of applying. Applications are always available for the next class, although it is usually 3-4 years between classes.
As part of the emergency services, our organization gives you the satisfaction of meeting new challenges, working with fellow members on difficult calls, and seeing the face of someone who can’t even begin to express how grateful they are that you have arrived to help them.
